Applications for the 2022-2023 Research Fellowships are now OPEN

We invite applications from Georgetown University students interested in undertaking individual or collaborative research in the Medical Humanities during AY 2022-23.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate, graduate/professional students from the Main and Medical campuses are welcome to apply. This includes, but is not limited to, those in the humanities, arts, social sciences, health/medicine and nursing, public policy and foreign service. We are interested in projects that relate to medical humanities and social medicine. For example, ethics, narrative medicine, literature and medicine, history of medicine, medical anthropology and sociology, cultural studies, visual and performing arts. We particularly encourage collaborative research spanning the humanities, social sciences, and STEM. These projects can be part of a paper, thesis, capstone or dissertation research, as well as independent research initiatives. They will be shared and promoted via the Medical Humanities website’s research tab.

Application Procedure:

Submission requirements:

  • 250-500 word description of proposed research questions and work plan;
  • annotated works cited (8-10 sources, can include creative models),
  • <100 words on possible outcomes (thesis, creative project, publication), 
  • max 250 word précis of the skills and experience that qualify you to undertake this research.

Please provide a faculty member’s name and role in your proposed project.

Stipends will be allocated as follows for dedicated work over AY 2021-22:

  • Undergraduate Students: $1000
  • Medical and Graduate Students: $2000
  • Collaborative Projects: $2000

Decisions will be announced via email on December 21, 2022.

Funding Details:

This award will be paid as a non-service stipend through Accounts Payable. Winners will need to be set up as suppliers in GMS. If you receive the award, an award letter will be provided and an invoice request placed through GMS. At that point, you will be paid either via direct deposit or a mailed check. We will coordinate these details after announcement of awards.
