This article is Dr. Hunter Groninger‘s introduction to a symposium issue of Heart Failure Reviews that aims to call attention to the rapidly developing interface between heart failure and palliative care. Dr. Groninger reflects that “as the heart failure epidemic grows, a growing awareness of the burdens of living with heart failure invites fresh perspectives on how we might best support these patients and their caregivers”. Thus, the issue speaks to opportunities for palliative interventions to enhance heart failure care throughout the disease trajectory, including medical management, MCS, and end-of-life care.
