Inaugural Georgetown-Howard Medical Humanities Fireside Chat Highlights Health Narratives and Justice
The Georgetown-Howard Center for Medical Humanities and Health Justice hosted its inaugural fireside chat, bringing together scholars and storytellers to explore health narratives within Black communities. The conversation featured Dr. Lakshmi Krishnan alongside Marcia Chatelain, Pulitzer Prize winning historian and Gene Demby, co-host of NPR’s Code Switch podcast. Together, they examined how lore, lived experience, and cultural traditions shape understandings of health, illness, and care, particularly in communities historically marginalized by medical systems. The event underscored the importance of narrative, context, and structural awareness in advancing health justice and reflected the strength of interdisciplinary collaboration between Georgetown and Howard University.
