Why I Chose Medical Humanitites

Olivia Collins (SOH’28)
My name is Olivia Collins, and I am from Essex, Connecticut. I am a sophomore majoring in Healthcare Management and Policy. History has always been one of my favorite subjects, so when I discovered the Medical Humanities Initiative, I knew I wanted to be part of it. This semester, I am interning for Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal. Like Professor Krishnan’s class, my work in the senator’s office has shown me how health policy extends beyond numbers and budgets, it directly shapes human stories of care, dignity, and access. I believe anyone interested in a more empathetic approach to healthcare as it pertains to either themselves or their focus of study at Georgetown should take a Medical Humanities course, as empathy should guide every field of study.
